In a Network Operating Center (NOC):

  • Help Desk: interface with users, open, track, document trouble tickets and possibly resolve basic problems.
  • Network operators: provides proactive and reactive network monitoring and surveillance of all network links and devices. Report any network outages or status changes. Help resolve network outages if possible or work with engineers or administrators.
  • Network engineer: network infrastructure support; design, configure, maintain and troubleshoot all system and network related issues. (i.e. routers, switches, firewalls, intrusion detection)
  • System Administrator: Ensures that all network servers, services and applications are operational on a continuous basis. (i.e. email, file servers) Create, maintain and troubleshoot user accounts as needed.
  • Database Administrator: Developments and designs database strategies, monitors and improves database performance and capacity, and plans for future expansion requirements.
  • Information Assurance: Develop security policy for entire infrastructure, keep system accredited, and maintain security updates. Coordinates daily operational security activities that must be adhered to by all users and employees. Create, implement and maintain security templates for all network devices, servers and workstations.
  • Shift managers: maintain the NOC during their shift, manage employees, create schedules; report any issues to SDP manager. (Manages all routine maintenance activities)
  • NOC manager: Responsible for overall management of the NOC and creates SOP's (standard operating procedures) for day to day activities. Interfaces with customers, contractors and government officials as necessary.
